We need six projected images for the Club’s entry to the Matthewson Trophy at the Seddon Shields Area Photography weekend. If you have a really good projected image you would considered for our team entry, then email to me at trevor.dennis@xtra.co.nz if before 1st August, or to Liz Davidson at lizdavidson@xtra.co.nz if after 1st August. Our entry needs to be in by the middle of August, and we need to time to select the six images, so please get them to Liz or myself as soon as possible.

MAUD ISLAND
Late February 2011 (the later date is now confirmed – exact date TBA)
Maud Island is a special place with limited access by permit only. We are organising a trip out to the island late February 2011. Our original plan to go on 21st November has been abandoned because February fits better with the Takahe breeding season, and would present us with better photo opportunities. We will leave Havelock at about 8:30am, and be out all day getting back to Havelock late afternoon. There is a group permit cost of $130, plus a DoC landing fee of $15 per person, so with the boat trip charge, it is likely to cost in the region of $80 per person. Spouces are welcome, and we have invited Nelson Camera Club to come along. The boat is licenced for 47 people.
If you would like to go on this trip contact Liz Davidson, but I expect there will be a lot of interest so don’t delay. We will be collecting a deposite of $50 per person.

Lake Rotoiti Field Trip
On Sunday the 15th of August over a dozen Club members made their way to Lake Rotoiti. We left Blenheim under dull clouds which lifted gradually as we drove up the Wairau Valley. Once at our destination, our group divided up taking differing routes along the eastern lakeside tracks and the lake edge. Some individuals focussed on getting to grips with macro photography and others concentrated on the magnificent landscape shots to be had in the alpine environs. We lunched, beat off the sandflies and admired the lakeside ducks, a gathering of stately Jaguar cars and Master Henry Buunk, the 15 month old son of new members, Julie and Ian Buunk. After lunch a haphazard convoy proceeded to check our West Bay, the origin of the Buller River and then took a drive up the ski field road to the Carpark high above the lake. The views from there were magnificent but indifferent to fine-art photography with the light during that time of the afternoon being harsh and flat . However some record shots were fired off. We then left the lake and most proceeded to Tophouse to enjoy the wonderful old historic building and hospitality there. A good time was had by all. Theses field trips are such valuable ways to get to know our fellow club members, old and new.
